Contest Skateboard In-Depth Review and Guide

Game mechanics and objective

Spelling things out with a skateboard sounds ridiculous until you actually try it. The whole point here is grinding through each level to spell "SKATE" and then "COMBO," letter by letter, while the clock and a target score breathe down your neck. Land tricks off ramps, chain them on rails, and watch your multiplier stack up if you keep the combo alive without eating pavement. Coins are scattered around too, and those unlock new riders once you've got enough stuffed in your pocket. It's less about one perfect run and more about stringing together small wins across a level until the numbers finally add up.

How To Play

  • Press Space Bar to Ollie off ramps and lips, timing it right before you hit the edge.
  • Tap Z for a Kickflip, mid-air, to pad out your combo score.
  • Hold X for an Indy Grab if you want a grab trick mixed into the rotation.
  • Tap C for a Heelflip, the flip-side cousin of the Kickflip.
  • Hold Down Arrow on rail contact for a Noseslide, or Left/Right Arrow for a 5-0 Grind depending on your approach angle.
  • Grab the S-K-A-T-E and C-O-M-B-O letters scattered through the level while chasing the target score.

Winning Strategies

  • Don't just farm the same trick over and over, mixing flips and grabs keeps your combo multiplier climbing faster.
  • Rails are basically free points, so land on one whenever you see it instead of skating past.
  • Grab letters on your way to a ramp rather than detouring for them; wasted movement kills your run.
  • Watch your landing timing closely, a sloppy landing snaps your combo and resets the multiplier to nothing.
  • Save your riskier tricks for sections with more rail length, that's where combo strings pay off the most.
  • Once you've unlocked a new character with coins, try them anyway, some just feel snappier to control than others.
